Job Summary

The Senior Automation & Test Development Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, validating, and supporting automated test systems, software, and tools used within ZOLL's global service repair depots. This role ensures that service test methods, fixtures, and workflows are reliable, scalable, efficient, and compliant with regulatory standards. This role focuses on building robust, automated test and workflow solutions that improve service efficiency, data quality, and process standardization across the global service organization.

Essential Functions
  • TEST SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE & DEVELOPMENT
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of automated test systems, including hardware fixtures, test software, and instrumentation.
  • Develop automated test scripts and applications using tools such as LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Establish test requirements, strategy, and validation approaches for new and existing test methods.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize test systems to ensure repeatability, stability, safety, and compliance with regulatory expectations.
  • Partner with Operations, R&D, and Quality, to ensure alignment of test expectations, supporting documentation, and product updates.
  • Drive uniformity and consistency across global service test platforms, software versions, instrumentation, and workflows, and ensure training documentation for test procedures is complete and up to date.
  • Develop systems to capture and trend test data, as well as analyzing test data for improvement opportunities.
  • Develop documentation for test equipment, calibration requirements, and verification procedures in alignment with FDA and QSR standards.
  • Develop and execute validation plans for service test systems and methods.
  • AUTOMATION & WORKFLOW IMPROVMENT
  • Lead automation initiatives within the global service organization to reduce manual work, simplify technician tasks, improve data integrity, and enhance throughput.
  • Research, evaluate, and prototype emerging automation technologies including collaborative robots (cobots), machine vision systems, advanced test-station automation, material movement systems, RPA-style automation, and more, to determine feasibility, efficiency gains, and applicability within service operations.
  • Collaborate with other engineers within the service engineering department, as well as engineers in R&D, IT, quality, and others, to build integrations between test systems, data pipelines, dashboards, and AI-enabled tools.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts focused on test efficiency, process reliability, and global standardization of depot test systems.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other engineers on automation best practices.
  • Other duties as required.

Required/Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field required
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in test development, automation engineering, or production test engineering; medical device experience strongly preferred. required
  • Experience with version control, requirements documentation, and validation practices preferred
  • Experience designing and deploying automated test equipment, fixtures, or software in a regulated or industrial environment preferred
  • Experience working in a regulated environment; knowledge of FDA QSR and ISO 13485 preferred preferred
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and structured problem-solving methodologies a plus preferred
  • Experience working with high-voltage products is a plus preferred
  • Experience with MES, ERP, or manufacturing/service systems is beneficial preferred
  • Experience generating or reviewing verification/validation documentation a plus preferred
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI a plus preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong expertise in automated test system design, including fixture development, instrumentation control, and test sequencing.
  • Proficiency with LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, C#, or equivalent test engineering software tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, product specifications, BOMs, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills related to electro-mechanical and embedded systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and service teams.
  • Ability to ingest and analyze test data
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong documentation discipline, including test protocols, validation reports, and design files.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite

The annual salary for this position is:

$115,000.00 to $135,000.00

This position is eligible for an annual bonus in accordance with the company's bonus plan. Factors which may affect starting salary include geography, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
