Job Summary
The Director, Environment, Safety & Health directs, develops, implements, and manages occupational health and safety policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations and hazard-free facilities. Cultivates a culture of safety, responsibility, and environmental consciousness among all employees. Provides technical safety expertise to managers, supervisors and employees including program development, implementation and execution. Effectively communicates with all levels to maintain relationships and cooperation in pursuing business goals and promoting environmental, safety and health programs and services.
Essential Functions
Collaborate with senior leaders to align departmental strategies and specific objectives with the overall goals of the organization.
Provide programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, development and delivery of safety training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, appropriate equipment operation, and the use of protective equipment.
Ensure compliance with internal policies and federal, state, local, and industry specific laws and regulations.
Work with Human Resources to report work related injuries to insurance company as required and ensure completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
Coordinate, facilitate, and provide technical guidance to the in-house safety committees and emergency response teams.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate environmental, health and safety considerations into manufacturing processes and facility designs.
Stop operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
Serve as the primary liaison with federal, state, and local agencies having jurisdiction.
Identify opportunities to prevent and minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
Review safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
Conduct safety assessments and audits to identify weaknesses or potential risks and proactively develops and implements corrective actions.
Develop a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting.
Review and respond to all deficiencies, accidents, and near misses to determine root cause and preventative action to avoid repeat occurrences.
Attend safety conferences and/or seminars to support the company's safety policies and maintain awareness of current issues that may impact functional responsibilities.
Project leadership includes collaborating throughout the business to identify and justify opportunities, launching project teams, coaching to drive sustainable results, reporting project status and results, and developing team members.
Directly responsible for personnel management and administration including hiring, retention, performance, corrective and/or disciplinary action, and resolution of issues.
Manage assigned budgets and resources to ensure accurate monitoring, tracking, analysis, and forecasting conducted to ensure successful performance.
Lead sustainability initiatives to reduce environmental impacts, optimize resource usage, and promote eco-friendly practices.
Required/Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or equivalent combination of training and related experience required
At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
Demonstrated independent judgment, collaborative leadership, and strong problem-solving abilities.
Must be able to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflicts to reach consensus around common goals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to conduct training.
Ability to effectively organize and present information, data, ideas and concepts in written or presentation format.
Must be highly organized with strong prioritization skills, and possess the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong cross-functional team leadership skills with the ability to drive change, influence others, and foster a culture of safety.
Ability to foster teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere while establishing effective working relationships with a broad variety of individuals across organizational lines.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
