Summary of purpose/major responsibilities:
The Field Scientific Director (FSD) is part of the Field Based Medical Leadership Team, who is responsible for training and field strategic planning activities in collaboration with the medical leadership team focused on field engagements. Field Scientific Directors support MSLs in the field through coaching observations, feedback sessions and training needs assessments. They may be required to support other areas such as content adaptation or creation as needed.
The FSD’s main objectives are to:
Partner with the Medical leadership team focused on developing field initiatives aligned with medical strategy
Collaborate with field medical operations to support and monitor field initiatives
Lead development and execution of field training curriculum aligned to their therapeutic area including on-boarding and continuous learning journeys to ensure the field teams are prepared to engage in outstanding scientific interactions
Coach MSL performance and development to ensure excellence in the execution of the role and achievement of strategic objectives
Maintain strong knowledge of the therapeutic landscape including current treatment strategies, competitors, and new scientific and clinical care developments
Manage medical training requirements and documentation consistent with internal policies and procedures
When needed, support field medical team through content adaptation or creation aligned with training requirements

Main Responsibilities:
Field Medical Strategic Planning
Collaborate with medical leadership on developing field initiatives aligned with medical strategy
Contribute to development of field medical engagement tactics that align with Medical strategic priorities
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support and monitor progress and execution of field medical initiatives
Ensure alignment on strategic engagements through communication, training and reporting to relevant stakeholders
Team training and development
Coach, train and manage MSL performance and development to ensure excellence in the execution of the role and achievement of strategic objectives
Coach, train and manage MSL learning and development to ensure excellence in the execution of the role and achievement of strategic objectives
Guide individual and team development (clinical, technical, digital, communication, and leadership skills) through annual and quarterly training plans
Plan, coordinate, and implement all required formal training meetings (virtual, on-site/offsite)
Coordinate onboarding and certification for new Field Medical Personnel. Adapt, revise, and disseminate onboarding materials and resources. Coordinate with MSL manager, operations, and new hire throughout on-boarding
Assign and coordinate peer mentor & training moderators for onboarding
Facilitate on-boarding training sessions, on assigned topics, with new hires
Collect training documentation, including PRO1, and upload into appropriate repositories for audit readiness
Collaborate with Medical Content Developer/Medical Directors to ensure FBM competency with new scientific data and content resources
Deliver training using creative and engaging tools to enhance flexibility and delivery of training offerings
Coordinate with vendors and internal training partners (e.g. MLI, GTMC), as necessary, to provide training
Conduct periodic training surveys to ensure targeted learning & development and to solicit feedback on training satisfaction, training gaps
Perform field visits with individual MSLs to support territory development and promptly address field challenges or issues.
Successfully on-board new talent to accelerate time to effective field interactions and team engagement.
Ensure MSLs have robust scientific knowledge and communication skills to engage in balanced and impactful scientific exchanges with external stakeholders to enhance the understanding of the therapeutic area and medical value of our products
Confirm all MSLs fulfill global and corporate training requirements towards compliance on applicable internal and external policies and regulations
Support MSL team in creating meaningful individual development plans
Administrative work
Manage budgets and related administrative requirements related to field initiatives
When needed, support field medical team through content adaptation, localization or creation
Support development of SEP content, MTEs, FAQs, etc as needed
Complete all personal company assigned trainings and certifications
Stay updated on emerging scientific and technological advances and regulatory requirements to inform strategic decision-making
Attend and contribute internal team meetings
Create, execute and update personal individual development plan
About You
Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
Advanced degree in a relevant scientific or medical field (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD)
Prior experience in field medical role or pharmaceutical industry
Prior experience in training, teaching within areas related to academia and/or pharmaceutical industry (preferred)
Prior experience working within therapeutic area (preferred)

The salary range for this position is:
$206,250.00 - $297,916.66All compensation will be determined commensurate with demonstrated experience. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs. Additional benefits information can be found through the LINK.
