The Co-op/intern Engineer reports to Principal Engineer and is an integral part of mRNA Drug Substance Process Development team. This position offers opportunities to focus on mRNA drug substance process development, manufacturing, regulatory and analytical support, validation, and data review for drug substances and drug products. The Co-op/intern Engineer is responsible for assisting the development and execution of scalable and robust processes for drug substance. This position will assist with the implementation of digital tools for data capture and execution.

Main responsibilities:

Provide technical support for scale-up and manufacturing issues, and develop solutions to improve process efficiency and product quality (mRNA DS Production) – 50%
Assist in the completion of process scale-up and Pilot batches
Assist in the execution of scale down models for GMP manufacturing
Assist in scale-down models to assist with process scale-up

Assist in the implementation of Digital Tools – 50%
Assist in the implementation of digital tools for inventory management, genealogy, and sample submission – 20%
Assist in the implementation of digital tools for process data acquisition (Electronic lab notebooks and Electronic Batch Records.) – 30%
About you
Basic Qualifications:
Currently enrolled and pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical engineering, or related field with plans to graduate by Spring 2028
Must be able to relocate to the Waltham, MA office location and work 40hrs/week, Monday-Friday, for the full duration of the co-op/internship
Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university throughout the duration of the co-op/internship
Must be permanently authorized to work in the U.S. and not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually require future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to quickly learn digital tools.
Knowledge of engineering principles (i.e. mass balance, etc).

The salary range for this position is $27-$47 hourly. All compensation will be determined commensurate with demonstrated experience.
