The Field Scientific Director (FSD) serves as a strategic leader within the Sanofi US Rare Medical Team, focusing on assigned disease or functional areas while reporting to the corresponding US Medical Director. This role combines strategic medical affairs leadership with direct field engagement, maintaining 20% field responsibilities for key opinion leader (KOL) interactions at clinical trial sites, congresses, and advisory boards.
Operating with national scope, the FSD supports medical strategy and scientific engagement with US Healthcare Accounts, Healthcare Providers, and Healthcare Advocates to drive optimal patient outcomes. As a subject matter expert, the FSD directly supports operationalization of US medical affairs disease plans, including strategy development, publications, advisory boards, medical education, and KOL engagement initiatives.

Main Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Medical Affairs
Serve as internal subject matter expert for assigned disease(s), functional areas, and related products
Support development of US Medical Plans, including objectives and strategies aligned with franchise goals
Provide strategic leadership and senior-level expertise in translating medical plans to field execution tactics
Generate and review clinical insights from scientific exchange to inform medical strategy and identify care gaps
Training & Development
Develop comprehensive training curriculum for US Rare field-based medical team
Maintain US Training Plan per disease/product areas
Lead internal training initiatives for field medical teams
Provide training support to field commercial teams as requested
Content Development & Management
Develop and manage content aligned with medical strategy for field medical team materials
Manage disease area content for Healthcare Provider Portal
Provide medical input to brand teams regarding strategy, tactics, and claims development
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Clinical Study Units (CSU) to support clinical trial development
Support field medical team collaboration with managed markets and payer discussions
Provide medical support to internal functions including field sales and marketing
Collaborate with clinical operations for drugs in development
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure ethical and credible review of medical and promotional activities
Support Promotional Review Committee (PRC) processes
Maintain full compliance with corporate, industry, legal, and regulatory requirements
Uphold medical policy and scientific standards
Scientific Engagement
Support national congress strategy and symposium planning
Plan and execute Advisory Boards and consultancy meetings
Maintain current medical and scientific knowledge through continuing education
Engage with key stakeholders for scientific information exchange
About You
Required Qualifications
Education
Pharm.D., PhD, MD, or Master's in Genetics/Genetic Counseling with medical research or clinical focus
Experience
5+ years relevant professional experience in clinical, research, or industry settings
Preferred: Field-based medical affairs experience
Strongly preferred: Rare disease experience
Experience with US clinical healthcare delivery and biotechnology drug/device development

The salary range for this position is:
$206,250.00 - $297,916.66All compensation will be determined commensurate with demonstrated experience. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs. Additional benefits information can be found through the LINK.
