Clinical Digital & AI Acceleration Portfolio Manager
Sanofi
Job Title: Clinical Digital & AI Acceleration Portfolio Manager
Location: Morristown, NJ / Cambridge, MA
About the job
Our Team:
Sanofi is a leading bio-pharmaceutical company committed to advancing healthcare through groundbreaking research and development. Our dedicated function – Clinical Sciences & Operations (CSO) - plays a vital role in ensuring accurate and compliant clinical trial submissions and project operations, contributing to the approval of innovative therapies that transform patients' lives.
Within CSO, the Modernization & Performance Office (MPO) acts as a strategic transformation engine, driving modernization, digital acceleration, and measurable value creation across clinical development. MPO ensures that strategy, execution, and value realization are tightly connected, enabling CSO to operate faster, smarter, and at scale.
Job Overview:
CSO Digital Transformation is a flagship, multi-year transformation program designed to fundamentally modernize Sanofi’s clinical operations through the scaled adoption of digital technologies, data, and Artificial Intelligence. The portfolio spans site and patient engagement, operational acceleration (including clinical supply chains), real-time data access, and AI-enabled operations and decision support, with a strong emphasis on measurable business and patient impact.
The Clinical Digital & AI Acceleration Portfolio Manager is a senior strategic partner to the Head of Clinical Digital & AI Acceleration. Unlike a traditional PMO role, this position orchestrates the end-to-end transformation portfolio from strategy to value realization, ensuring that initiatives are prioritized, integrated, governed, and scaled in line with CSO and Sanofi enterprise objectives.
This role interfaces with executive sponsors, program leaders, finance, and business capability owners to ensure that programs and projects deliver tangible outcomes, quantified value, and sustainable adoption, supported by robust digital portfolio performance intelligence, dashboards and insights.
Main Responsibilities
Strategic Portfolio Alignment & Modernization:
Continuously align portfolio components with Sanofi’s strategy and CSO priorities, ensuring a clear line of sight between transformation investments and business outcomes
Shape and challenge the portfolio strategy by developing scenarios that support executive decision-making, trade-offs, and prioritization
Identify cross-initiative synergies, reuse opportunities, and integration levers to avoid siloed digital initiatives
Translate modernization ambitions (digital, data, AI) into executable, value-driven roadmaps
Actively identify new modernization opportunities across clinical operations, informed by performance data, capability gaps, and emerging technologies
Portfolio Governance & Operating Model
Coordinate, evolve and professionalize the Initiative Portfolio Management Office (iPMO) as a strategic governance layer, not only a control mechanism
Define and maintain governance standards covering value hypotheses, ROI tracking, adoption readiness, and scale-up criteria
Coach and challenge program teams on business case quality, value articulation, and outcome-based delivery
Ensure alignment with Digital, eDEV, and CSO innovation governance, including integration of externally incubated or “off-the-shelf” solutions
Act as a modernization thought partner rather than a purely procedural PMO
Portfolio Performance & Value Management:
Own the definition and consolidation of portfolio-level KPIs, including value realization, adoption, maturity, and transformation impact
Monitor portfolio health using decision-grade performance intelligence (progress, risks, interdependencies, value delivery)
Proactively identify risks, bottlenecks, and underperforming initiatives, and recommend corrective or reprioritization actions
Ensure robust transition to business and establish and maintain a framework for visibility of transition to business and scale-up, tracking whether initiatives deliver value beyond pilot phases
Produce executive-level insights and narratives linking digital transformation to tangible CSO outcomes
Manage complex transformation program as needed
Financial Strategy & Value Realization:
Partner with Finance and OPCM to drive disciplined investment management across the portfolio
Ensure initiatives are supported by clear financial logic (ROI, cost avoidance, productivity gains, quality or cycle-time impact)
Track financial performance across the lifecycle, from investment decision to realized value
Support budget cycles and financial milestones with credible, evidence-based portfolio insights
Strategic Resource & Capability Alignment
Assess and consolidate portfolio-level resource needs, with a focus on critical capabilities rather than just capacity
Optimize resource allocation across initiatives to maximize portfolio throughput and value
Support vendor strategy, sourcing decisions, and contract governance in alignment with transformation priorities, and ensure up-to-date tracking of external resource allocation
Identify capability gaps (digital, data, AI, change) and propose targeted upskilling or sourcing solutions
Ensure coherent onboarding and enablement of teams across programs
Executive Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
Design and execute high-impact portfolio presentations, reports and communications for CSO leadership (SLT, deep dives, executive reviews, etc)
Act as a trusted interlocutor for MPO leader and senior stakeholders, balancing competing priorities and perspectives
Translate complex transformation topics into clear, outcome-oriented executive narratives
Deliver concise, insight-driven monthly portfolio reports highlighting progress, deployment, value, risks, and decisions required
About you
Experience:
Minimum 7+ years in project and portfolio management, with demonstrated exposure to large-scale transformation or modernization programs
Proven experience driving digital, data, or AI-enabled transformation in complex organizations
Strong command of portfolio governance, value-based prioritization, and performance tracking
Solid experience with business case development, ROI modeling, and financial steering
Demonstrated ability to partner with senior leaders and influence without direct authority
Experience in matrixed, global environments requiring orchestration across functions
Soft skills:
Strategic and systems thinker, able to connect initiatives into a coherent transformation narrative
Strong analytical skills paired with business-oriented judgment
Credible, calm leadership presence in executive settings
Change/modernization-oriented mindset, comfortable challenging the status quo
Excellent cross-cultural collaboration and communication skills
Education:
Bachelors required. Master's degree or PhD preferred.
Experience in digital audit is a plus
