In this role, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, combining your expertise in medical device patents with advanced AI-driven patent tools. You'll work closely with inventors, engineering teams, and global IP colleagues to execute patent prosecution strategies. Your ability to quickly grasp complex technologies and translate them into robust patents will be crucial. Main responsibilities:
Draft and prosecute high-quality patent applications for medical devices and drug delivery systems, leveraging AI tools to enhance efficiency and quality.
Collaborate with in-house attorneys and outside counsel to assess inventions, determine patentability, and develop robust patent strategies.
Manage patent application prosecution, including preparing and filing responses to office actions from various patent offices, with a focus on USPTO and EPO.
Utilize and continuously refine AI-assisted patent preparation and prosecution workflows, ensuring compliance with USPTO/EPO legal and ethical rules.
Critically evaluate AI-generated output, detecting and eliminating errors and hallucinations to maintain the highest quality standards.
Evaluate and implement AI-driven tools to streamline office action responses and optimize prosecution timelines.
Stay abreast of the evolving legal landscape related to medical device IP and AI in patent practice.
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Sanofi's product portfolio, pipeline, and business objectives.
Collaborate with Sanofi's inventors, engineers and technical staff to translate complex technologies into clear and enforceable patent claims.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of AI tools and processes within the Global IP Department, sharing best practices and insights.
About you:
Education and Qualifications:
Graduate degree (MS or PhD) in mechanical engineering, physics, or related sciences. Education in disciplines related to medical devices or life sciences preferred.
Minimum 5 years of patent agent experience, gained in-house, and/or in a law firm setting in the fields of medical devices and drug delivery.
Registered US Patent Agent.
AI tools experience
Experience:
Experience working in-house at a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device company is highly desirable.
Demonstrated proficiency to understand and draft patent applications for complex medical device technologies, including software-enabled devices and combination products.
Demonstrated proficiency in U.S., PCT, and EP patent law and practices, with a track record of successful global patent application preparation and prosecution.
Experience utilizing cutting-edge AI tools for patent drafting, office action response generation, proofreading, and semantic analysis.
Experience in adapting to and implementing new legal technologies in patent practice.
Familiarity with pharma or life sciences, including FDA regulatory processes (preferred).
Additional qualifications such as European Patent Attorney or Chinese Patent Attorney are a plus.
Skills:
Proficiency in patent drafting, preparation, and prosecution.
Hands-on experience with AI-powered patent software tools and platforms.
Ability to critically evaluate and refine AI-generated content.
Familiarity with mechanical CAD software (preferred).
Self-motivated and performance-driven, with a proactive approach to contributing beyond assigned projects.
Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to legal precision.
Enthusiasm for continuous learning and adaptability in the rapidly evolving legal tech landscape.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical and legal concepts clearly.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, adept at working within an international professional network.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with inventors, attorneys, and technical staff across different cultures and time zones.
Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, global environment.

The salary range for this position is:
