About the Job

The Senior Director, Portfolio Medical Strategy and Solutions will lead and manage a team responsible for developing a unified portfolio medical engagement plan with tailored scientific content, programming and solutions for large, organized customers, including payer and population health stakeholders. Key areas of focus include driving innovation, consistency and excellence standards that enhance scientific engagement and medical value proposition. As strategic connector, this role will ensure appropriate integration, alignment and collaboration with therapeutic area medical units, Market Access Portfolio Management, Value & Access, Brand teams and other internal stakeholders.

Exceptional leadership skills, deep understanding of the US healthcare landscape, and the ability to drive development of impactful medical engagement initiatives that align with portfolio priorities and large organized customer needs are key requirements for this role. This position reports to the Head, Medical Value and Outcomes & Portfolio Strategy as part of the Specialty Care North America Medical organization.

Main Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning & Field Enablement

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive, unified portfolio medical engagement strategies, including educational initiatives and related content/tools intended for payer/population HCDMs and other organized customers.

  • Ensure engagement strategy, content and materials are aligned with TA scientific communication plans and relevant commercial stakeholders.

  • Lead and oversee the development of population health initiatives aimed at improving quality of care and health outcomes.

  • Direct the development of non-CME medical education programming, including strategic partnerships with professional societies.

  • Lead insight generation initiatives, market research, and payer medical consultant panels to ensure the customer voice is represented in medical engagement and evidence generation planning

  • Collaborate with relevant cross-functional team members to inform and shape clinical and economic value proposition, including clinical value resources.

  • Oversee the development of US payer/population HCDM-focused publications in collaboration with relevant global scientific communication stakeholders.

  • Ensure comprehensive field team support and training, including delivery of core training content and resources.

Customer Engagement

  • Provide strategic medical support and subject matter expertise for key accounts, working in collaboration with field MVO and account management teams.

  • Lead clinical update submissions for clinical pathway organizations.

  • Lead coordination of Clinical Scientific Dialogue consultancies with organized customers.

  • Contribute to organized customer outcomes research partnerships as key member of project team.

  • Lead scientific sponsorships and partnerships with relevant payer/population health professional organizations.

  • Oversee the development and delivery of educational programming for payer/population HCDMs at professional organization meetings and congresses.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, cultivating capabilities and expertise in driving impactful scientific engagement solutions and partnerships.

  • Establish clear performance expectations, provide ongoing coaching, and conduct regular performance reviews.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure team members have appropriate training and resources to excel in their roles.

Cross-functional Leadership

  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with TA medical units, Value & Access, and other key stakeholders.

  • Partner with Global Medical Information to develop specific healthcare economic information (HCEI) SRDs relevant for payer/population HCDM.

  • Collaborate with HEVA to provide input and medical review of economic models/BIMs, dossiers, and patient estimator tools.

  • Collaborate with Independent Medical Education to support the review of payer-related educational grant requests and opportunities for payer/population HCDM-focused education.

  • Collaborate with Public Affairs and TA medical units to coordinate opportunities to support scientific engagement with PAG Leadership.

  • Contribute to integrated evidence generation planning process to ensure the payer/population HCDM voice is included in US evidence gap analysis.

  • Serve as medical reviewer for market access customer resources, as requested and when appropriate.

  • Support US tiering assessment for non-HCP payer/HEOR consultants for Specialty Care business unit.

Resource Management & Optimization

  • Develop and manage medical program budgets and resource allocation.

  • Optimize team workflow and responsibilities to maximize impact and efficiency.

  • Establish metrics and KPIs to measure team performance and program effectiveness.

  • Oversee content workflow management from concept to implementation

  • Coordinate with MVO field team to optimize content usage, customer experience, and employee experience.

  • Collaborate with Global Sci Com, TA medical units, Med Hub and vendors to ensure synergies and consistency with content development.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulations and company policies.

Innovation & Capability Building

  • Drive innovation with customer engagement tools and solutions by leveraging AI, digital technologies, interactive dashboard tools, and emerging platforms to enhance scientific value and impact.

  • Develop comprehensive field team support systems and training programs.

About You

Leadership Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated people leadership experience with ability to build, develop and inspire teams

  • Strategic thinking with proven ability to translate vision into actionable plans

  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing without direct authority

  • Track record of driving innovation and managing change in complex organizations

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Strong business acumen and resource management capabilities

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in healthcare or related scientific discipline (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD, MS, etc.), MBA or relevant business background a plus

  • Relevant experience in a specialty care therapeutic area of focus (e.g., immunology, neurology, oncology, rare blood disorders)

  • Deep understanding of US healthcare delivery dynamics across health systems, payers, providers, and other key influencers

  • At least 7-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in medical strategy, content development/design and scientific communications

  • Minimum 3 years of people management experience leading teams in medical affairs or related functions

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a field medical outcomes (or related role)

  • Strong business acumen, interpersonal communications, and project management skills

Travel

  • As a key enabling function for the field medical outcomes team and subject matter expert for strategic account support, this role is considered field based.

  • Travel (approximately 30%) will be required for field-related responsibilities, internal meetings, appropriate engagement with internal stakeholders, and participation in relevant congresses/professional meetings.

The salary range for this position is:

$225,000.00 - $325,000.00
