Responsibilities
Overview/Department Description:
The Sanofi North America Region Workplace Experience (WX) team is seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) leader for the position of Head of HSE, NorAm WX. This position leads the North America WX HSE Managers and their teams that serve multiple tertiary and R+D locations across the North America portfolio as well as the fleet program. The Head of HSE is accountable for developing and overseeing the strategy to establish, implement and monitor HSE programs and each site’s HSE Management System through strong relationships and influence of executive management and site leadership. This position ensures compliance with company and legal HSE requirements, promotes continuous improvement and champions the development of a culture of HSE across the portfolio.
**This is a Hybrid onsite/remote model out of any Sanofi location in the US.
Key Responsibilities:
Manages multiple HSE Managers directly across multiple areas of health and safety.
Establishes a vision, roadmap and objectives for the NorAm WX HSE team aligned with Global Sanofi HSE Roadmap and business orientations
Achieves results by Championing Sanofi HSE initiatives and influencing senior management across sites.
Designs, develops, and oversees the implementation of all health and safety programs in compliance with all applicable regulations and Sanofi Standards, through a seasoned team of HSE professionals.
Keeps current with legislative changes and works with a strong network of HSE professionals to create strategies to ensure proactive, timely action and policy compliance.
Oversees the HSE integration of new sites with a focus on compliance assurance and adoption of best practices in alignment with Sanofi’s HSE Strategies.
Collects, evaluates and derives insights from Key HSE Performance Indicators and proposes custom, best in class solutions to reduce accident trends.
Ensures robust processes are in place for comprehensive risk identification and management for all in scope company activities including chemical research, biological research, formulations, analytical research and development, facilities and fleet.
Establishes well-structured processes for communicating risks, action plans and roles and responsibilities to the business units’ management and other stakeholders.
Ensure that HSE site heads have implemented site emergency response efforts to ensure effective emergency and crisis management system for the site.
Establish ways of working between HSE Managers and other key site stakeholders to accomplish objectives and collaborate on creating a strong HSE culture at each site.
Oversee the NorAm WX HSE Training program efforts to comply with Sanofi and regulatory standards. Foster collaboration on HSE Training across the North America region.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience developing and implementing HSE programs with increasing responsibility.
A minimum of 5 years of experience managing direct reports and/or teams.
A natural communicator and relationship builder across all levels of an organization
Demonstrated experience dealing in public forums
Self-starter with experience in influencing executive management and HSE professionals in a matrix environment.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple and diverse issues
Ability to successfully manage workload under deadlines.
Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Safety or related field
Experience in pharmaceutical research/development or manufacturing
Professional Safety Certification a plus.
Role Criteria:
Up to 20% domestic travel
Special Working Conditions
The Head HSE, NorAm WX will periodically be required to visit laboratories and as such will be required to wear PPE
