Head of Sample Management US, Integrated Drug Discovery
Description
Integrated Drug Discovery (IDD) is the small molecule drug discovery platform within Sanofi. IDD is an international, interdisciplinary group that spans medicinal chemistry, structural biology, screening, biochemistry, biophysics, cellular pharmacology, delivery technologies, sample management and more. Our vision is to deliver valuable, high quality synthetic drugs of varying modalities to improve the lives of patients. Our mission is to provide innovation and key enabling technologies to drive the discovery of synthetic small molecules, peptides and emerging synthetic modalities as drug candidates in the Sanofi Research Portfolio; to deliver high quality science and innovative approaches to drug discovery, and to perform as a highly collaborative flexible and forward-looking organization with broad impact across the Sanofi pipeline. As part of our team, you will have an opportunity to work with talented and passionate colleagues in Integrated Drug Discovery, a global organization located in Cambridge, MA, Vitry-Alfortville, France and Frankfurt, Germany. We are seeking a dynamic Head of Sample Management US IDD. This position is based in Cambridge, MA and will directly report to the Site Head of Integrated Drug Discovery in the US.
KeyDutiesandResponsibilities
The Head of Sample Management in the US coordinates all small molecule and biological samples in the US; leads the Sample Management Department in the US within IDD; serves on the US IDD Leadership Team, the IDD Global Sample Management Council. The Head of Sample Management leads a department of internal scientists and managed service personnel and heads the sample management facility in Cambridge, MA. The Head of Sample Management is the key US contact for trade compliance and import/export/shipping logistics. The Head of Sample management US also coordinates with other platforms (e.g., DMPK, Large Molecule Research), all therapeutic areas (Inflammation & Immunology, Oncology, Rare and Neurological) and international (e.g., Frankfurt, Germany & Vitry, France) and domestic sites to insure sample management deliverables, best practices and efficiency in sample management.

Liaison to alliance management and business development
Scientific and Operational Knowledge
Works seamlessly across all small molecule, biological sample modalities, formats, temperatures, etc.
Expertise in storage automation, assay ready plates, dose response plates, high throughput screening enablement
Maintains up to date knowledge of evolving storage, handling, and dispensing technologies
Expertise in international trade compliance, import/export, tariff, and shipping logistics, IP risk mitigation, human tissue compliance
Digital savvy, experience in varying sample management tools expected; in silico expertise in Mosaic a plus
Identifies opportunities for Sample Management efficiencies and excellence
People
Management of internal group and managed service personnel
Recruit, train, develop, mentor sample management scientists on a variety of infrastructure platforms, across sample formats, across logistical deliverables, and in silico needs
Basic Qualifications
PhD Scientific degree with 10 years of sample management experience in biopharma; or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 18 years of sample management experience in biopharma
Extensive managerial experience
Experience in sample management across all small molecule and biological modalities
Preferred Qualifications
At least 15 years of experience in a Sample Management position in the biopharma industry.
5 years of experience in a leading role in a sample management department within biopharma.
Extensive managerial experience of internal and managed services
Expert in sample storage, handling, and dispensing across all modalities
Strong track record of operational excellence
Results oriented and focused on providing service and solutions to the organization with a strong motivation for operational excellence
Comfortable and efficient in fast moving complex global environment
Excellent, open and concise communicator; good listener and observer; able to interact with executive leadership
Customer-oriented mindset; aimed at simplifying sample management, shipping, importing, etc. for Sanofi scientists
