R&D Engineering Technician III (Bedford, MA)

This position provides technical support for mechanical testing, test method development, validation activities, prototyping, preventive equipment maintenance, internal audits, and supports new product development and standard product support engineering activities. This individual will play a key role in supporting advanced development, research and design activities, laboratory operations, and engineering testing initiatives. The role requires strong hands-on problem-solving skills, organization, and the ability to support fast-paced product development activities from concept through verification.

In addition, this position will help maintain and organize laboratory and prototyping areas, ensuring equipment, tools, materials, and test infrastructure are maintained and available to support engineering teams efficiently.

Your role:

  • Support engineering teams by conducting product performance bench testing and contributing to product development and design iteration activities. This includes hands-on collaboration with engineers throughout the development cycle.

  • Develop, execute, and support mechanical, functional, and system-level test methods using new and existing test fixtures. Perform testing on prototypes and development devices to support verification and characterization efforts.

  • Build, modify, and assemble prototype materials, components, subassemblies, and fixtures to enable rapid prototyping. Support activities such as 3D printing, fixture fabrication, and general laboratory support.

  • Operate, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, and maintain laboratory and test equipment while coordinating ongoing equipment upkeep. Maintain organized laboratory and prototyping spaces, including tools, inventory, equipment, and workstations.

  • Analyze test data and assist with preparation of reports and technical summaries to support troubleshooting and engineering investigations. Perform all job functions in compliance with applicable GMP and ISO guidelines.

  • You bring 3+ years of experience in a technical or laboratory support role as an individual contributor, with hands-on involvement in mechanical testing, prototyping, laboratory equipment, or product development activities.

  • You have strong technical and computer skills, including experience supporting lab operations, maintaining organized technical workspaces, and using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word; bonus skills include optical and electrical assembly experience and SolidWorks certification.

  • You hold a minimum two-year technical degree or equivalent hands-on experience, with additional certifications (such as SolidWorks) considered a plus.

  • You are a conscientious, detail-oriented team player who communicates clearly, manages multiple projects simultaneously, works independently with minimal supervision, and consistently drives for results.

  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.

How we work together:

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

This is an onsite role and will be in the office 5 days a week.

Philips Transparency Details:

The pay range for this position in MA is $33.00 - $52.00/hr.

The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.

In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered.
