The Imaging Scientist engages in exploratory algorithm research, experimental design, and quantitative analysis to push the boundaries of applied medical imaging. Working with a multidisciplinary team, this position emphasizes scientific curiosity, creative problem solving, and technical rigor. Candidates will participate in all stages of imaging science projects, from concept through data curation, prototyping, and performance assessment, contributing to both internal knowledge and public scientific communication.
Your role:
Collaborate with researchers and clinicians to define open scientific questions and guide hypothesis‑driven imaging research. Support cross-functional discussions and present findings in team or scientific forums.
Design and prototype imaging algorithms using Python/C/C++, while developing and evaluating models through deep learning or classical image analysis methods. Quantify and interpret model performance using rigorous statistical and validation metrics.
Collect, curate, and annotate medical imaging datasets to enable high‑quality experimentation and validation. Ensure data integrity and support reproducible research workflows.
Document research methods, assumptions, code, and validation strategies for transparency and reproducibility. Prepare manuscripts, posters, reports, or proposals for academic, internal, or grant-related communication.
Maintain awareness of emerging modeling and computing techniques, seeking mentorship and collaboration within diverse teams. Support regulatory and quality requirements for research‑grade tools and findings.

You have advanced expertise supporting an individual contributor role, bringing deep experience in biomedical engineering, imaging science, and scientific software development. You consistently apply strong analytical and research capabilities to solve complex technical problems.
You possess proficiency in Python/C/C++, algorithm development, image processing, quantitative analysis, and multidimensional medical dataset interpretation. Bonus skills include GPU/CUDA programming, parallel computing, advanced modeling techniques, and familiarity with regulatory and privacy standards for medical devices.
You hold a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, medical physics, computer science, physical sciences, or a closely related field. Your background reflects strong training in experimental design, scientific research methods, and machine learning concepts.
You demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication, a results‑oriented mindset, and strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving abilities. You thrive in collaborative, research‑driven environments and show a clear commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.

How we work together:
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities 5 days per week. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Philips Transparency Details:
The pay range for this position in MA is $99,000 to $158,000
The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered. At Philips, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each case.
