Clinical Science & Imaging Leader

The Clinical Science & Imaging Leader is responsible for leading R&D and product implementation, coordinating cross-functional teams to enhance customer experience, monitoring development progress and budget, managing personnel for efficient operation, assessing emerging technologies for integration into the product roadmap, influencing technical developments, and ensuring compliance with product lifecycle, development procedures, and regulatory requirements. The role assesses and formulates a long-term vision and strategy to drive business value and foster cross-organizational innovation. This role leads departmental capabilities, ensuring the development of necessary competences for new technology adoption while maintaining resource efficiency. The role fosters an engaged and innovative work environment, guides project execution, and collaborates across departments to gather input on technological advancements. The role makes data-driven decisions, influences market trends, leads the development department, and drives comprehensive talent management initiatives.

Your role:

  • Assesses and formulates a long-term vision and strategy for innovation & advanced development in Clinical Science, Research & Imaging for the Ultrasound BU across all categories/clinical practices.
  • Deliver maximum business value and impact through identifying and connecting current and future customer needs, solutions and technologies to initiate new methods or disruptive enabling technologies of diagnosis, treatment and/or care.
  • Leads departmental capabilities to develop and maintain a long-term view on necessary competences and knowledge for new technology, ensuring adequate resources and tools while enhancing departmental expertise. Optimizes and develops technological competencies and product creation and research processes within organizational and market dynamics, improving key processes and managing costs according to budgetary constraints.
  • Leads co-creation and discovery in line with overall strategy and roadmap, including co-creation and early ideation; shaping funnels of ideas and research projects with clinical, industry/pharmaceutical, and research partners; clinical research collaboration; creating and evaluating clinical prototypes; contributing to shaping of overall innovation roadmaps via insights
  • Guides the development department, focusing on execution, ensuring output and performance align with innovation partner expectations, and managing costs in line with budgets. Accountable for the attainment of operational plans, providing guidance to Project Managers/Leaders, and ensuring the optimal allocation of personnel and efficient project management practices.
  • Leads succession planning and comprehensive talent management, driving employee selection, performance management, compensation management, and career development in alignment with organizational operational goals.
  • Drives continuous improvement across Clinical Science, Imaging and Research processes in the team and strives for efficiency and the highest standards of quality in everything the team does while onboarding best practices from other business units and external standards and benchmarks.
  • Drive Speed of Innovation enables measurable impact in projects. Deliver the Speed of Innovation impact into cost productivity, where relevant
  • Partner with PSQ/Chief Medical Office to optimize and drive throughput of clinical evaluation processes and time-to-impact

You're the right fit if:

  • Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 15+ years of relevant (Leadership + Technical) experience
  • 5+ years of experience in systems, device, or transducer development within the health technology industry
  • 5+ years managing large globally distributed teams (60+ FTEs) up to and including director-level reports, with direct line management and budget accountability
  • Demonstrated experience in development leadership for classified medical devices, specifically hardware or imaging components, with an emphasis on acoustics and physics
  • Demonstrated experience in partnering with outside entities/clinical professionals and institutions to co-develop and evaluate clinical imaging solutions
  • Proven ability to lead, plan and execute multiple large-scale, long-duration engineering & development projects with successful outcomes (on-time, on-budget and with quality)
  • Strong leadership with the ability to demonstrate impact to business in prior roles, including evidence of continuous improvement (such as major quality, reliability, and performance initiatives), building high-performing teams and developing talent
  • Highly skilled at leading and collaborating within complex, matrix business environments with a demonstrated track record of successful outcomes when working with cross-functional / multi-national / multi-cultural teams
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver continuous short-term business results (in a complex and constrained environment) combined with creating and implementing a competitive long-term strategy
  • An ability to express ideas effectively in both verbal and written formats with both technical and non-technical audiences.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Philips Transparency Details

The pay range for this position in Cambridge, MA or Bothell, WA is $214,200.00 to $343,720.00

The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.

In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered.
