Job Description

The Principal Data Engineer is responsible for performing and or leading all aspects of Data engineering for medical devices at Olympus including technical planning, development of design requirements and implementation of data collection, pre-processing, validation, and backup. In particular, it is the responsibility of the data engineer to work with data scientists to collect and use data to train ML models that meet product requirements.

Job Duties

  • Architect and implement data pipelines, storing, preprocessing, validating and transforming data into usable formats for data scientists.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversee all phases of projects including research design and development.
  • Collaborate with a cross functional team to achieve project goals and deadlines.
  • Analyze product requirements and create technical and functional requirements.
  • Collaborate with a cross functional team to achieve project goals and deadlines.
  • Participate in the validation of tools used in the data engineering processes.
  • Data ingestion and curation for supervised training.
  • Adhere to development timelines.
  • Learn and adopt new tools and techniques to increase performance, automation and scalability.
  • Resolve design problems with urgency, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Other projects and duties as necessary and assigned.

Job Qualifictaions

Required:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics/Statistics required.
  • Graduate degree in related field preferred
  • Minimum years of related experience: 9+ years or 8+ years with MS or 5+ with PhD of experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Other Considerations (travel/hours availability, etc.): Travel to other Company facilities, hospitals, and animal lab settings may be required.
  • Ability to work overtime is required.

Preferred:

  • Have participated in the design and release of a medical device that incorporated ML/AI
  • Knowledge of SQL databases
  • Professional experience with python and common data processing libraries
  • Experience with Hadoop based analytics.
  • Experience with data modeling and cloud based ETL tools.
  • Experience with machine learning workflows
  • Experience with Linux based systems.
  • Ability and experienced in approaching challenging and/or ambiguous engineering problems with scientific logic and problem solving skills. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely is required.
  • Ability to effectively work within a requirements management system (e.g., JAMA, Doors) preferred.
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with others, work well within cross-functional teams and across multiple sites, as applicable.
  • Must be capable of effectively directing project teams on multiple work streams in parallel and leading teams towards accomplishment of objectives.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels, both verbally and in writing. Strong presentation skills and the ability influence.
  • Must have a positive attitude and capable of motivating teams / team members to accomplish efforts in a timely manner and with high quality.
