Job Description UC Health is hiring a Full Time Clinical Staff RN Educator for our Psychiatry Department at the UC Medical Center The Clinical Staff RN Educator is responsible for providing individualized orientation for new personnel, in-service education, and continuing education programs to meet the identified needs of the staff. The Clinical Staff RN Educator serves as a resource to the nursing staff. The Clinical Staff RN Educator assesses, develops, coordinates, and supports educational programs to meet the needs of staff and enhance specific clinical nursing skills. The Clinical Staff RN Educator also demonstrates the ability to accept, model, and implement change, as well as functions as a role model for clinical staff. Location Cincinnati, OH, United States Qualifications Required: Master’s Degree in Nursing. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. Current BLS certifications required. Certification in Education and/or clinical specialty area strongly preferred. If not currently certified, expected to achieve certification within 1 year of eligibility. For employees working in UCMC Psychiatric Services, NCI-APS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills) Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Minimum Required: 3 years clinical experience. Responsibilities PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY): Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect. Unit Level Professional Development The scope of the Nurse Educator is primarily at the unit/specialty level. Uses critical thinking, the nursing process, principles of adult learning, teaching/learning theories and age appropriate teaching strategies in implementation of educational programs for unit specific patient populations. Unit-based responsibilities include: orientation, preceptor support/development, coaching/mentoring, quality initiatives, unit level annual competency assessment/validation, and student activities Ensures effective learning experiences for competency assessment and validation to reflect practice changes, regulatory agency or organizational policy requirements. Serves in collaboration with nursing leadership, the Professional Practice Organization (PPO), and the Center for Professional Growth and Innovative Practice (CPGIP) to implement nursing education and professional development programs. Supports and participates in hospital level educational initiatives. Role Model Role models professional nursing and interprofessional collaborative behaviors. Demonstrates attributes of growth mindset that embody the mission/vision/values of UC Health as well as professional nursing practice standards. Actions drive unit level goals and initiatives from a nursing professional development perspective. Possesses required competencies as outlined by the ANA Education: Scope and Standards of Practice (2016). Uses available data to monitor/evaluate performance of department programs, initiatives and targeted improvement efforts. Participates in project implementation (e.g. CDIS, Clinical Ladder, nurse Residency Program requirements). Bedside Clinical Support Maintains clinical competence related to specific unit patient population. At the discretion of unit leadership, supports staff at the bedside.
