We are seeking an experienced reimbursement strategy and health economics professional to identify and lead initiatives for GE HealthCare’s global Advanced Visualization Solutions (AVS) business. The AVS business encompasses multiple technologies and digital solutions used for diagnostic imaging and image-guided therapy, including ultrasound, mobile and fixed c-arms, as well as a growing portfolio of AI-driven diagnostic and workflow enhancement tools, used across many different clinical care areas and settings. This role will be instrumental in shaping market access pathways, ensuring appropriate reimbursement, and demonstrating clinical and economic value to payers, providers, and policy stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise of the U.S. reimbursement system – and, preferably, at least working knowledge of the core Western Europe (Germany, UK, France, Italy and Spain), Japan and China healthcare reimbursement / payment and health technology assessment systems; an ability to partner with Government Affairs on health policy; and with Clinical Research and Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) for development of clinical and economic evidence. Experience with diagnostic imaging and/or image-guided therapy solutions is preferred but not required.

The top priority for this role is to support AVS leadership on reimbursement strategy and implementation. When required, and based on workload, the person will also be expected to support Health Economic and Outcomes Research studies.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Reimbursement Strategy Development and Implementation:

  • Lead the analysis, development and execution of reimbursement strategies for new and existing imaging technologies. Assess and balance investment requirements needed to support the reimbursement strategy with business goals and the expected returns.
    • Continuously analyze reimbursement pathways and strategies for AI-enabled and other advanced/new imaging technologies to identify gaps or opportunities for new CPT code development and/or coverage policies.
    • Assess the need for reimbursement strategy support for other technologies under development, in areas such as robotics/remote capabilities; ultrasound as therapy; cardiology pathway innovations; solutions for ASC/OBL settings.
    • Support the AVS Business Development & Strategy teams as they assess inorganic growth opportunities by assessing existing coverage and payment landscape for the solutions under consideration and/or the time and cost to a reimbursed market.
  • Collaborate with the U.S. region reimbursement leader in monitoring and influencing CMS policies relevant to AVS technology.
  • Engage with payers, providers, clinical thought leaders, and professional societies to support coverage and payment decisions, as required, in collaboration with Clinical Research leaders and the AVS Chief Medical Officer.
  • Assess requirements for tactical reimbursement support activities for providers using products with Category III codes, as applicable, and provide guidance to the U.S. region on said activities.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Research team and the HEOR lead on clinical and economic evidence development priorities to support coding, coverage, and payment, to ensure market access for new and emerging technologies.
  • Scope and manage third-party reimbursement strategy research and advisory engagements.

Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR):

Scope and manage HEOR projects across the AVS segments to demonstrate the value of AVS solutions:

  • Evidence Planning: partner with cross-functional stakeholders (marketing, product management, clinical research) to help develop plans for evidence generation and value communication, focusing on operational and financial outcomes of interest to payers and providers.
  • Evidence Generation: design and execute HEOR studies (eg. literature reviews, modelling, customer outcomes studies) demonstrating operational and/or financial outcomes. Identify and manage external contractors undertaking HEOR studies; occasionally undertaking in-house studies.
  • Value Communication: effectively communicate study results to internal and external audiences. Collaborate with marketing to translate study results for sales tools / collaterals for commercial teams.

Internal and External stakeholder management

  • Partner with regulatory affairs, government affairs & policy, legal, clinical research, global and regional marketing, product management, and business development to align reimbursement strategies with business goals.
  • Support AVS senior leadership in assessing compelling opportunities for reimbursement strategy implementation; provide subject-matter expertise to set realistic expectations.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on reimbursement and HEOR topics.
  • Collaborate with regional government affairs & policy on AVS-related advocacy efforts.
  • Represent the company in industry forums and working groups related to reimbursement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Health Economics, Public Health, Health Policy, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in U.S. reimbursement strategy (public and private payers) in the medical device or diagnostics industry.
  • Proven track record of success developing and implementing reimbursement strategy in healthcare industry.
  • Experience in leading or assisting on HEOR projects in the medical device or diagnostics industry.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex economic and policy concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s in Health Economics, Public Health, Health Policy, or related field.
  • Expertise with coding systems (CPT, HCPCS, DRG, ICD-10) and coverage determination processes; however, certified coder credentials not required.
  • Proven track record of success developing and implementing reimbursement strategy for diagnostic imaging technologies.
  • Experience in leading or assisting on research projects utilizing real-world data and/or evidence to support coverage and payment initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of the core Western Europe (Germany, UK, France, Italy and Spain), Japan and China healthcare reimbursement / payment and health technology assessment system
