Job Description Summary

The Chief Engineer in Maternal Infant Care (MIC) is recognized as a technical expert and thought leader inside and outside GE HealthCare, who leads the technical vision of the organization and technical reviews for the overall system quality and performance. He/she will be engaged in solving ambiguous technical challenges. He/she should be passionate and enthusiastic in solving technical problems in MIC by initiating innovative solutions or performing detailed analyses and/or tests.

Job Description

As a Chief Engineer in the domain of Maternal Infant Care, he/she will be responsible for:

  • Own the technology roadmap and worldwide technology planning efforts for solutions in the perinatal care setting, e.g., fetal monitoring, microenvironments, noninvasive ventilation, fetal ECG, Doppler ultrasound, neonatal monitoring parameters, and battery technology
  • Identify technology opportunities tied to market and clinical needs
  • Drive strategic platform investments to maximize technology benefits and promote efficiency through reuse
  • Define and drive Advanced Technology Development (ATD) project portfolio in alignment with NPI programs to prove feasibility and demonstrate market value
  • Work closely with engineering managers, marketing, and program managers to ensure game-changing technologies are driven and delivered to the business
  • Own technical partnerships with other GE businesses and external companies
  • Navigate complex regulatory requirements and guiding teams to deliver pragmatic solutions
  • Establish and enforce Monitoring Solutions design standards and promote best practices through rigorous Technical Design Reviews (TDR)
  • Define the Technology Ownership Map based on strategic needs, and work with functional leaders to grow a pipeline of technical expertise to meet long-term goals
  • Guide and mentor Lead System Designers to assess technical scope, manage technical risks, and conduct thorough TDRs by leveraging global technology expertise of Principal Engineers and Architects
  • Mentor and coach Principal Engineers, Architects, and thought leaders from across the business
  • Guide investment decisions with global research
  • Act as subject matter expert in ready-to-serve capacity to solve technical problems and make appropriate trade-offs to deliver products
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements with total appreciation for GE’s Quality Management System (QMS)

Qualifications

  • BS in Physics or Engineering; advanced degree is preferred

  • Experience researching and outlining a technical direction with justification
  • Experience setting up and conducting rigorous experiments and analyzing results to correlate to models, explain phenomena to validate or invalidate hypothesis
  • Leadership and collaboration skills – able to lead or follow in a cross functional team environment while working toward shared goals and commitments
  • Ability to understand and translate customer/product needs into specific technical requirements and explain engineering or physics trade-offs
  • 15+ years of experience in research and/or development 5+ years of leadership in research or development
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an exceptional team player
  • Has a track record of solving tough technical problems. Has demonstrated ability to provide leadership/guidance in dealing with difficult technical problems.
  • Has demonstrated proficiency and achievement in design or technology field while providing technical guidance to a group of specialists in the technology field.

Desired Characteristics

  • Advanced Engineering degree – PhD preferred

  • Patents issued and/or publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS), medical product regulatory compliance processes, and/or 510(k) submissions
