Job Description Summary

The Product Manager - Wind Farm Value Engineering provides support to GE’s customers in optimizing the value that can be extracted out of their project/site. The optimization process typically takes place in the early stages of project development, ahead of the regular RFQ process but can also extend into later phases of the project. Aim of the optimization is to provide technical solutions to maximize the project returns for the customer. Those technical solutions cover the full scope of the project from pre-installation activities all the way to the end of life of the project regardless of whether the elements are in GE’s scope of supply or not. It includes in addition to the wind turbine also elements like balance of plant equipment, site lay-out, yield optimization and reduction of site energy consumption. The role is at the crossroad of engineering, product line and sales, it is part of the integrated sales process.

The Haliade-X was the industry’s first 14MW offshore wind turbine to operate, and is the only 12+MW offshore wind turbine platform that has been operating for over two years, specifically at its Rotterdam prototype site.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role, you will closely collaborate with the customer and you will partner internally across functions to ensure alignment with product line, Engineering, Sales and Tendering, Global Supply Chain, Project Office, Services and other stakeholders. Responsibilities include amongst others:

  • Lead value generation projects for key customers through active engagement with those customers as well as GE internal resources. The measurement of success is the incremental value generated for the customer.

  • Build strong relationships with customers and become the go-to-person” in case they need advice. Become a recognized industry leader with respect to project value optimization.

  • Project manage GE internal resources to support optimization of the full project scope (incl. non-GE scope), which includes amongst others optimization of the lay-out, yield, foundations, electrical BOP, etc.

  • Develop a process for identifying customer needs and develop tools/process to develop solutions to address those needs.

  • Feedback of lessons learned from the optimization work into the GE Offshore Wind product and business strategy.

  • Develop a clear process for handover to the GE ITO and OTR teams upon completion of the optimization.

  • Work with the commercial teams on the commercialization strategy and external communications plan for new products or technical features.

  • Benchmarking of GE’s value optimization process versus the competition.

  • Lead the development of automated tools and processes to quickly provide initial feedback to customers.

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key internal GE stakeholders such as Product Line, Sales and Tendering, Supply Chain, Project Office and Services to execute plans and deliver for our customers.

  • Provide cross-functional leadership to ensure a cohesive, differentiated, and market-leading technical commercialization strategy.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline

  • Minimum 10 years proven technology experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the wind industry

Desired Characteristics:

  • Broad multi-disciplinary business knowledge

  • Good understanding of how customers make money, and how GE’s resources can be used to create incremental value for the customer.

  • Proven track-record of setting high quality and reliability standards to self and team

  • Proven experience with offshore wind turbine foundation design

  • A clear understanding of the electrical infrastructure (cabling, substation) required for a large offshore wind farm

  • Strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to set vision and lead team to successful outcomes

  • Demonstrated system thinking: ability to assess tradeoffs, effectively assess risk, and optimize results

  • Strong interpersonal skills including: presence, high credibility, and ability to develop relationships with people inside and outside GE

  • Proven ability to build bridges across functions leading to better outcomes

  • Proven ability to execute on commitments, at the right time and right quality

  • Deep Wind industry expertise with proven results developing & implementing technology programs

  • Prior product management experience in the offshore wind industry

  • Excellent business acumen and customer focus

  • Prior Engineering leadership experience with proven ability delivering complex programs on schedule, within budget, and proven component performance

  • Strong presentation, communication, and negotiation skills

  • Advanced degree in Engineering

*The salary range for this position is 114,500.00 - 190,800.00 USD Annual USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a 15% performance bonus. Available benefits include Health, Medical, 401K, and Paid Leave.
