Position Summary:

The RDA Associate will be responsible for analyzing athena’s claims data and conducting independent research to deliver data driven insights and solutions that prevent/improve detractors of clean claim performance. The role combines technical expertise in data analysis with the research acumen required to identify and define actionable opportunities while also influencing key stakeholders to implement these opportunities.

The Associate should demonstrate excellent communication skills, be detail oriented, understand how to manipulate and utilize large data sets, have a keen ability for solving business problems via independent analysis, and enjoy managing simultaneous projects with competing priorities and multiple stakeholders.

About the Team:

The Rejection and Denial Analysis (RDA) team empowers athenahealth to deliver industry-leading clean claim performance by identifying and investigating the drivers of rejections and denials, delivering and managing a robust, cross-functional feedback loop of data-driven opportunities that enable effective prevention and management.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

Data Analysis, Research, and Project Management

  • Utilizing athena’s data assets to deliver insights that promote the continuous improvement of network billing outcomes

  • Monitoring and reporting to stakeholders the drivers of key performance indicators (KPIs) of billing performance and areas of opportunity to drive improvement

  • Management of and execution against initiatives to research and improve specific areas of poor billing performance or drive process improvement

  • Researching the root cause of spikes and trends in negative billing outcomes and leveraging internal subject matter experts to identify and define the business requirements for actionable opportunities to improve billing performance

  • Ensure timely and effective implementation of billing solutions, coordinating efforts with stakeholders including collaborating on creative/alternative solutions to roadblocks

  • Analyze complex data sets, identifying trends and proactively developing solutions to globally felt customer issues

Expected Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in a quantitative or technical discipline such as, economics, finance, computer science, business, or a similar quantitative field

  • 3+ years of professional work experience, inclusive of 1+ years of data analytics

  • Experience leveraging data and data analysis techniques to deliver insights to stakeholders

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Experience working directly in support of healthcare revenue cycle management a plus

  • Strong understanding of healthcare revenue cycle management as well as the various reimbursement models

  • Ability to effectively synthesize data into digestible and actionable information

  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently as well as part of an extended, cross-functional team

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Passion for customer service, problem solving, and solution design

  • Ability to prioritize and to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities and communicate potential conflicts to management

  • Capable of managing simultaneous projects with multiple stakeholders

  • Maintain a curiosity on how things work and a willingness to dive deeper

  • Ability to engage with external partners (payers / clearinghouses) to thoroughly understand complex billing issues

  • Capable of utilizing Artificial Intelligence to aid research and analysis

  • Familiarity and comfort with web/software applications and a basic understanding of cloud-based SaaS

Expected Compensation

$54,000 - $92,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
