Role Summary:
The Director of Corporate Strategy and Development plays a critical role in driving strategic initiatives and aligning cross-divisional efforts to accelerate athenahealth's growth and innovation. This position offers a unique opportunity to leverage broad experience across multiple business areas, providing a comprehensive perspective on the company’s evolving landscape. The director will report directly to Vice President, Corporate Strategy and will engage regularly with senior leaders to influence and execute high-impact initiatives.

Team Summary:
The Corporate Strategy and Development team sits at the intersection of our Executive Leadership, private equity sponsors, and industry leading product platform. The team drives growth-oriented decisions such where and how athenahealth competes, where resources are deployed, and is the owner of our acquisition roadmap. athenahealth is in an exciting period in its history as the company continues to grow in its core markets and builds a repeatable model for business expansion.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, refinement, and execution of corporate strategic initiatives across multiple divisions.
  • Support the senior leadership team and manage cross-functional programs, ensuring robust processes, adherence to timelines, and clear communication of progress.
  • Synthesize and present key updates and findings to executive leadership and prepare for sponsor reviews.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive positioning, and internal performance metrics to inform strategic recommendations.
  • Provide financial analysis, long-range forecasting and analysis studies associated with strategic initiatives partnering closely with FP&A.
  • Facilitate executive-level meetings and prepare briefing materials to support decision-making processes.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to strategic initiatives’ success and impact.
  • Support corporate development efforts such as mergers, acquisitions, or partnership evaluations as needed.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of strategic dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Coordinate with product teams to understand product roadmaps and integrate strategic priorities.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members or analysts on the strategy team.
  • Contribute to internal communication efforts to ensure organization-wide awareness of strategy progress.
  • Engage with external partners or consultants to supplement internal expertise when appropriate.

Expected Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in business, healthcare, or a related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in corporate strategy, corporate development, or related business leadership roles in healthcare related fields.
  • Knowledge of athenahealth products is a strong plus with demonstrated experience working across multiple business units such as Customer Success, Marketing, Sales, and/or Product.
  • Past experience managing deal pipelines in sales, business development, partnership team, or other capacity.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills to distill complex information into clear insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform financial analysis, long-range forecasting, and conduct analytical studies related to evaluating potential partnerships.
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to manage complex projects and maintain process oversight.
  • Executive presence and experience effectively engaging with directors and executive leadership teams on strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills to distill complex information into clear insights.

Expected Compensation

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
