Advocates for Human Potential (“AHP”) has an immediate opening for a Research Associate I to join our team of leading behavioral health researchers.
Responsibilities
- Managing implementation of all or a portion of evaluation/research plans, including participating in project meetings, coordinating stakeholder meetings, assisting with survey/protocol development, managing data collection, submitting institutional review board (IRB) applications, resolving problems, and tracking project timelines and deliverables
- Enrolling, tracking, and conducting interviews with study participants and maintaining tracking databases
- Conducting focus groups and key informant interviews with a wide range of stakeholders (e.g., agency administrators, clinicians/treatment providers, people with lived experience of substance use disorders [SUDs])
- Conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses
- Cofacilitating stakeholder meetings and preparing meeting minutes and other documents
- Preparing reports, presentations, data dictionaries, literature reviews, and other work products
- Contributing to business development efforts, including proposal writing and submision
- Participating in data collection and data quality/integrity tasks
- Meeting regularly with the project team to discuss project process, data, and any difficulties
- Acting as a liaison between the evaluation team and provider staff regarding client enrollment and data collection
- Creating evaluation training materials
- Preparing reports summarizing data and key project results
- Occasional travel may be required
Qualifications
Required
- A master’s degree in social work, psychology, public health, or related field
- Strong knowledge of social science research study design and methods
- Previous experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis, data collection, proposal writing, and project management
Preferred
- Experience with data collection software (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics, etc.) is preferred.
- Experience using Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) data collection tools—Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA), National Outcome Measures (NOMs) and Infrastructure Development, Prevention, and Mental Health Promotion (IPP)—is a plus
- Experience working directly with individuals who are currently or have experienced life challenges such as homelessness, substance misuse, mental health problems, and/or child welfare involvement.
- Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, including state-level administrators, behavioral health program directors, advocates, clinicians, and people with lived experience of SUDs
- Strong organizational skills and ability to perform duties that require close attention to detail.
- Ability to quickly establish a good rapport and a respectful and empathic relationship with study participants.
- Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, technical staff, and community-based and other partners.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Ability to perform duties that require close attention to detail
- Ability to operate in a team environment and to be flexible in taking on and performing assignments as necessary
- Proficient in Stata, REDCap, MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and qualitative analysis and citation management software.

The starting salary range for this position is between $55,000 and $65,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and other factors.

The base salary range above represents the low and high ends of the AHP salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be high or low in the range based on various factors, including but not limited to location, experience, and education. The range listed is just one component of AHP’s total employee compensation package.
