AHP is the Administrative Entity and technical assistance provider for a number of California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) programs including the California 988 Crisis Center Network, which includes contracting and support for 988 crisis center services and the Medi-Cal Mobile Crisis TA Center (M-TAC) , and the Crisis Care Mobile Unit (CCMU) program that supports infrastructure development for counties and tribes. AHP seeks an individual with the commitment, necessary knowledge and skills to serve as a Subject Matter Expert for our current programs, delivering TA, and also to engaging in new business development strategies to expand our work to other states and communities.
The successful candidate will have leadership and senior management experience in designing, developing and implementing initiatives focused on expansion of crisis centers and mobile crisis services. The Senior Consultant II will support existing projects, including delivery of technical assistance, and provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise to expand and strengthen AHP’s national, state and community responses. A significant portion of the work is in California, thus an individual in California is preferred.
About the Position
This is a remote position in California. However, the position will require periodic travel to AHP's Pasadena or other offices for meetings and trainings and may include some additional travel.
The Senior Consultant II- will engage in activities including, but not limited to the following:
Leadership
- Provide thought leadership across the Center for Training, Technical Assistance, and Consulting (CTTAC), on effective implementation of crisis center and mobile crisis service delivery systems.
- Serve as lead for independent projects within your area of expertise, and complete project work within scope of expertise.
- Bring ideas for internal consulting to Program Directors to address needs and knowledge gaps; develop content to address the same.
- As requested, provide leadership in strategic planning support to AHP clients and internal initiatives and growth planning to expand AHP's crisis portfolio of work.
- Analyze data and use it to make recommendations for program leadership and to inform program activities
Content Development
- Identify areas for needed content in print materials, large-scale and small-scale training, and technical assistance opportunities.
- Independently create content for websites and/or training and technical assistance materials.
Training and Technical Assistance
- Provide coaching, consulting, support, and expertise to clients, grantees, TTA recipients, and other stakeholders as they roll out new programs, policies, or initiatives.
- Serve as a facilitator for internal or external working meetings, and TA sessions, including development of purpose, agenda, scope, implementation methods, and evaluation.
- Speak at events including conferences, webinars, and learning collaboratives around areas of expertise.
- Use subject matter expertise to provide real-time, on-the-spot consultation or resources to internal and external stakeholders with a fast turnaround.
- Document work of TTA recipients, delivery of TTA, and progress in meeting established goals.
- If assigned, lead delivery of large-scale training and technical assistance events (e.g., learning collaboratives, conferences).
- If assigned, maintain a portfolio of grantees, ensuring the grantees are making progress in their statements of work and implementation plans, are accountable to contract requirements, and are responsive to AHP requests.
Business Development
- Provide expertise and recommendations within business development contexts by carefully listening, identifying and reflecting gaps or problems identified, and proposing solutions.
- Serve as a leader on outreach/marketing calls in areas of expertise and supporting the account-based management team in presenting AHP.
- If assigned, serve as a task lead in the creation of proposals for funding.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Candidates with the following knowledge, skills and abilities are encouraged to apply:
- Excellent understanding of the policy and organizational landscape of crisis services, including 988 and mobile crisis, at such a level that they may be described as a subject matter expert.
- Understanding should include national, state, and community trends, applications, and programs. (California specific understanding preferred.)
- Understanding must include broad overview of the subject area, policies, programs, funding, trends, and best practices as well as challenges and opportunities related to local implementation.
- Outstanding professional communication skills, including verbal and written presentation for diverse audiences.
- Recognition for expertise in their area of focus, such that they are asked to speak, consult, or present on topics in their area of focus.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit, behavioral health, or government organizational structures including recruitment and retention of staff, development of staff, program development and oversight, budgets and systems change.
- Knowledge of social determinants of health, CLAS standards and diversity, equity and inclusion strategies as they pertain to crisis services.
- High-level diplomacy, coaching, and leadership without organizational chart authority. Sophisticated ability to draw out others’ description of problems or gaps, helping them to identify needs.
- Superior understanding of business development best practices, developed through participation and leadership in business development.
- Outstanding ability to manage multiple competing priorities while remaining available and flexible to identify and address needs as they are identified.
- High-level ability to develop and deliver training and presentations using subject matter expertise and adult learning strategies.
- Sophisticated ability to maintain and nurture professional relationships with clients, stakeholders, and past professional contacts in a way that supports AHP’s mission.
- In-depth understanding of implementation science and adult learning pedagogy sufficient to support provision of exceptional consultation, technical assistance (TA), and training.
- Ability to facilitate diverse groups to a common plan of action.
- Personal initiative and self-management to the degree that their professional behavior is modeled by others.
- Microsoft Office suite, and other relevant software platforms
- Excellent judgment and diplomacy while working with clients and stakeholders to adopt new policies.
- Ability to maintain files, documentation, and notes on individual training and technical assistance (TTA) activities and support of projects.
Education and Professional Experience
We are seeking candidates with at least ten years of progressively more responsible experience which includes managing complex processes and procedures, managing grants or contracts, and leading project teams. Experience must include significant work in the area of crisis center and mobile crisis service design, implementation and evaluation.
Candidates for this position should possess a master’s degree in social work, behavioral health, public health, or similar field. Professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement.

Salary: $125,000-$140,000
AHP, in an effort to be transparent with applicants about salary and in compliance with various state pay disclosure requirements, publishes the following information, which is current as of the date of posting. The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the AHP salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be high or low in the range based on various factors, including but not limited to location, experience, and education. The range listed is just one component of AHP’s total compensation package for employees.
